She’s Got the X Factor Cori Rosen November 28, 2012 Blogs 1 By Cori Rosen Thirteen-year-old ‘X Factor’ contestant Carly Rose Sonenclar could have the chops to be in the biz for a long time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU_dBDccruI&feature=relmfu If you have not yet tuned in to the U.S. version of “The X Factor” this season, you are seriously missing out. Although much of the talent is remarkable, one act truly stands out above the rest: Carly Rose Sonenclar. Despite being just 13, this emerging music sensation is conquering “The X Factor.” At her audition, her rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” scored her a slot on the show. The entire celebrity panel of judges on “The X Factor” — L.A. Reid, Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, and Demi Lovato — rewarded Sonenclar with a standing ovation. Cowell even had a hard time understanding how this young girl could deliver such a powerful tune. “That’s not you singing. Somebody is behind you, behind the screen, singing that song,” he joked disbelievingly. After her audition, she advanced through “Boot Camp.” Sonenclar, a contestant in the teen category on the show, then performed a heart-wrenching cover of Karmin’s “Brokenhearted” for her mentor Britney Spears during the “Judge’s House” round of the competition, and that advanced her to the live shows. Although Sonenclar previously performed on Broadway in the short-lived musical Wonderland and had small roles in the movies The Nanny Diaries and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, she is finally grabbing the attention of the music world now through her moving performances on “The X Factor.” Sonenclar slays the notes she belts, sending chills through the bodies of the live audience and viewers at home. Her raw talent has continued to be recognized by “X Factor” voters; she received the highest number of votes after her latest unique performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on Nov. 21, which sent her into the top eight on the live singing show. Other songs Carly has sung on “The X Factor” include Flo Rida’s “Good Feeling,” Bruno Mars’s “It Will Rain,” and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” At this rate, regardless of whether or not Sonenclar snags the title as the winner of “The X Factor,” she is a domineering new force in the music realm. As judge Demi Lovato exclaimed to Sonenclar, “You’re going to be around in this music industry for the rest of your life.” And it seems X Factor voters are in full agreement. Dee Lockett Her cover of “Brokenhearted” is so, so good. Can’t believe she’s only 13!
