Get Ready to (Fire)Fly Next Summer Tara Schoenborn December 27, 2012 Blogs By Tara Schoenborn Move over, fans of cult sci-fi shows—it’s the music aficionado’s turn to be crazy about something called ‘Firefly.’ This time, it’s the East Coast’s next big music festival. Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza—festivals music junkies everywhere would die to attend—are about to meet their match. Meet Firefly, the music festival that’s putting Delaware on the music map. This past July, the festival was held in Dover, across from the International Speedway, in the newly created Woodlands. The festival was so successful that Red Frog Events, the organizers of the three-day, 48-act festival, are planning to hold it again next summer June 21-23. For Firefly’s inaugural weekend, festival headliners included The Killers, The Black Keys, and Jack White. Up-and-coming artists from Young the Giant and Walk the Moon to Bassnectar and the Flaming Lips performed on four different stages with at least 30,000 fans in attendance who seemed to enjoy it. However, the great musical talent wasn’t all that left fans raving at the end of the weekend: there was also the atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and polite, wanting nothing more than to enjoy good music, good people, and have a relaxed time. There was a hammock section, hot air balloon rides, and a make-your-own-ked station. Camping sites around the festival allowed attendees to bond with other fans who shared their interests. Basically, the festival was so good its first year that there were next to no complaints. Magazines across the nation, from Rolling Stone to Billboard, featured the festival as the event to watch. Although no headliners for next year have been announced yet, Red Frog Events promises the lineup will be released early 2013, and tickets will go on sale around the same time. So, keep an ear open for news about next summer’s Firefly Music Festical so you won’t miss one of the East Coast’s only musical extravaganzas.
